The Facts About Gum Recession

Posted .

If you’re interested in protecting your teeth and gums, you may know that there are several things you’ll need to do. For instance, you may have heard that flossing and brushing are very important. We also suggest visiting us twice every year for a routine checkup. Furthermore, please feel free to give us a call if you notice signs of a dental problem—including symptoms of gum recession.

Unfortunately, if you see any brown spots on your gums, if your pearly whites seem longer, or if you have swollen or red gums, you could have gum recession, which could be caused by a number of issues. Sadly, if you are brushing your teeth too hard or grind your pearly whites, you’ll be more likely to have gum recession. If your gum recession is the result of brushing too hard, you could try brushing more gently and could consider purchasing a toothbrush with softer bristles. If you grind your teeth, you may be making unusual noises when you sleep, experience regular painful headaches, or have a sore jaw.

Generally, it’s also very important that you floss and brush your teeth regularly if you’re interested in preventing gum recession.
